President’s Corner By: Mike Kessler Water system improvements are moving forward which may cause some inconveniences during the coming months, as construction always does. Please bear with us during this time and make the people doing this work welcome at Granny Squirrel. Miller Well Drilling expects it employees to be courteous and to maintain a safe working environment. Please notify GSMC is you observe any conditions that appear to be unsafe. Your concerns will be brought to Miller Well Drillings attention. The new tank has been in operation since last fall. The chlorination building is nearing completion. Now new pipe, valves, and control wiring will be installed. This means that roads may be blocked by construction equipment or impassible due to trenches being dug for the new pipe. It also means the water may have to be shut off from time to time. Construction crews will do what they can to minimize any negative impact of the construction process but some inconvenience cannot be avoided. From time to time you may find work and supply trucks blocking your way. The crews will be happy to move vehicles that block your way but you should expect delays. Because of the nature of the work you may find the same trucks blocking your way again as you come and go. Trenching will actually close roads at times. Signs and barricades will be put up to alert drivers to these conditions. Routine road work in the construction areas will be suspended until the water line work is complete. The ride may be rough for a while as that is another inconvenience of construction. Road work will resume once the water line work is completed.
GSMC has made substantial progress on the
water system improvements. Miller Well Drilling, which has been working
on the Granny Squirrel system for over two decades, has asked that we
express their apologies in advance for any inconvenience. |

Social Calendar Our first ladies luncheon of the year was held on March 20th at Rib Country in Murphy with many neighbors in attendance. The next ladies luncheon is scheduled for Thursday, April 17th. Please contact Jean Parks or Kathy Hill if you would like to host a ladies luncheon. Hosting requires picking a location for the luncheon and letting everyone know. We will celebrate Memorial Day weekend as a community on Saturday, May 24th at 6 pm with a wiener roast at the clubhouse. Hot dogs will be provided and everyone is asked to bring a covered dish to share. We will also be having a workday from 9a-12n on the 24th for anyone able to help fix up the clubhouse and common areas. A copy of the 2008 social calendar is attached and you can also check the Granny Squirrel web site http://www.grannysquirrel.com for our calendar of events. |

Reminder At the annual meeting in October the members considered the issue of motorcycles. This topic arose from complaints about the noise made by motorcycles being ridden in the subdivision. Others noted that riding motorcycles was one of the attractions of the mountains especially on some of the well known roads in the area. Section 7m of the subdivision covenants clearly provides that motorcycles cannot operate in the subdivision or on any lot. After considerable discussion, the membership decided that the provisions of the covenants should be enforced and that no motorcycles are to be ridden in the subdivision at any time but that an effort should be made to accommodate motorcycles in some way. One suggestion was to create a parking area for motorcycles and motor homes off of Breakaway Trial. Other suggestions included some type of accommodations at the clubhouse or turning the tennis courts into a parking area.
In any event, based on
the restrictions in the covenants, motorcycles cannot be ridden into the
subdivision any further than the clubhouse or the security gate on
Breakaway Trail. They will have to be trailered beyond those points.
